Pony Express Trail 100 and 50
Here’s your chance to run in the wild west on the historic Pony Express Trail in western Utah. This is a 100 mile and 50 mile run. The course is remote and a support crew is REQUIRED to provide support along the way. The course is 100% dirt road and only has about 3,000 feet elevation gain/loss. Perfect for first-timers or personal records.

The course for both races will start at Lookout Campground west of Faust, UT. The 100-mile race will go out 58.5 miles to Fish Springs National Wildlife Refuge and then head back, finishing at Simpson Springs.

The 50-mile course heads the same direction but finishes at Blackrock Pony Express station site. The course is remote, but the roads are good if you don’t drive too fast. Crews are required! You must have a crew or share a crew with another runner. Usage of a map will be required, but the course is easy to follow. In general it is: “head west.” There are signs that point the way for the Pony Express Trail at major intersections.

With the constant buzz of media and newscasts, we are ever-aware of the refugee crisis that is ongoing and devastating. But how much do we really know, and how can we really help?

In the fall of 2015, a group of BYU students traveled to Amman, Jordan to study the Arab culture and Arabic language. We interacted with and befriended people who had relocated from Iraq and Syria. While not all of them were refugees, these people had family and friends who still lived in war-ridden countries. We saw the impact that the crisis had on those not directly amidst the conflict, informally studying the social, economic and emotional impact of displacement. As our awareness of the needs of refugees increased, so did our desire to help them.
Now that we are home, in the comfort and safety of a politically secure nation, we want to help those who are being emotionally and physically crippled by the effects of war. We want to support those who cannot support themselves.
On Oct. 21, 2017, we will be holding a 5K-10K race, and the entirety of proceeds will be given to organizations supporting refugees. We'll provide more information once we have established our partners.
On the day of the race, we will also be holding a cultural event, which will celebrate the art, music and food of different refugee communities in Utah. All are welcome to attend and participate.
As we organize this community event, we value the opinions and desires of the community, so please contact us with any suggestions, questions or donation inquiries. We promise to keep you updated on the event.
