Round Valley Rambler
The Round Valley Rambler is a trail half marathon and the first race in the Triple Trail Challenge. New this year we are adding a 7K event that will start shortly after the Half Marathon! 100% of the course takes place on buff single and double track trails within the 2,100 acre, Round Valley Open Space, with altitude ranging from 6,500 to 7,100 feet. While athletes will find the trails foot-friendly, the rolling, high-desert terrain presents a few long and steady climbs followed by fast downhills. The Round Valley Rambler is a stout trail half and serves as a reality check for athletes preparing for the Triple Trail Challenge sister races, the Jupiter Peak Steeplechase and the Mid Mountain Marathon.

*Please note: only the Half distance is eligible as part of the Triple Trail Challenge.

Desert RATS Kokopelli 150
Multi-Day Footrace Adventure
Fruita, CO to Moab, UT
June 17-23, 2018

Unique beauty, amazing wildlife and profound solitude – all the elements of true adventure – reward racers willing to brave the strenuous Desert RATS journey. Vast landscape and ancient obstacles combine to create the rugged and stunning beauty of the Kokopelli Trail. Desert RATS is more than just a race. It is not only a journey through true backcountry desert but within yourself. While some will race, most are there to test their mental and physical limits. Don’t expect to set personal records for the distance you’ll cover; you will need to pace yourself for the heat and terrain. You must have patience and grit in order to not be fighting your own frustration. The race is about the experience, pushing yourself and making friends along the way.

At Desert RATS, the adventure is the goal. It’s about reaching deep within yourself, adapting to adversity and overcoming the challenges in front of you. Those who enjoy Desert RATS the most come into the experience prepared and willing to be flexible in every way.

FATHER’S DAY 5K – YOU’RE MY HERO
Join us for our fifth annual FATHER’S DAY 5K virtual race! It’s time to celebrate your father the HERO! We will also be donating at least 15% of each registration to Team Hoyt, which works to build the individual character, confidence and self-esteem of America’s disabled and physically challenged young people through inclusion in all facets of daily life. In the spring of 1977, Rick Hoyt told his father, Dick Hoyt, that he wanted to participate in a 5-mile benefit run for a lacrosse player who had been paralyzed in an accident. Far from being a long-distance runner, Dick agreed to push Rick in his wheelchair and they finished all 5 miles, coming in next to last. That night, Rick told his father, “Dad, when I’m running, it feels like I’m not handicapped.”

Wahsatch Steeplechase
The Wahsatch Steeplechase was conceived by McKay Edwards in 1979.

There were originally three courses all starting in Memory Grove Park.

The 8 mile Twin Peaks Derby (Avenues Twin Peaks, site of the 2002 Olympic Rings)

The 15.5. mile Black Mountain Classic

The 26.2 mile Wahsatch Crest Marathon which climbed over Lookout Peak and descended to City Creek Pass and down City Creek Canyon back to Memory Grove.

Today the Wahsatch Steeplechase is a tough 17 mile course that winds up the Shoreline trail above the city, past Twin Peaks to the Limestone Crags of Black Mountain.

Descends the east ridge from the summit to Smugglers Gap. A mountain pass that was named because of a group of moonshiners that operated a still in City Creek Canyon during prohibition and smuggled moonshine to the military base at Fort Douglas. From there the course descends the single track Smuggles Gap trail to City Creek Canyon, down City Creek Canyon back to the start at Memory Grove.

START/PACKETS

Start time is 6:00 a.m.

There are no packets. Pick up your race number between 5:00 a.m. and 5:59 a.m., the morning of the race. T-shirts and prizes will be distributed following the race.

AID STATION

There are 4 aid stations supplied with water, an electrolyte (Gnarly) drink, snacks, and gels (Honey Stinger). You must carry a bottle or bladder during the race to refill at the aid stations.
